How to Microwave Baked Apple Slices
Baked apples are a delicious and relatively healthy snack, side dish or dessert, and baking them in the microwave saves time and labor. You'll want to use a microwave-safe bowl to make your baked apples. Choose apples that are used in pies, as these cook well and will retain the most flavor. Try sugar, cinnamon, maple syrup, nutmeg or even cola to season your baked apple slices.
Preparing Apples
-
After selecting your apples -- ones such as Jonagold or Fujis are great for baked apples -- slice them into a microwave-safe bowl. Apples can be baked with or without the peels, depending on your preference. Season with your flavor of choice, but keep the seasoning simple. The best flavor is in the apples themselves.
Baking the Apples
-
Set the microwave to high heat before cooking. You'll need to cook the apples for about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes of cooking time for each whole apple. For example, three sliced apples would need 4 1/2 to 6 minutes of cooking time. Once the apples finish baking, toss the apple slices gently to fully coat with the seasonings. Baked apples pair well with main dishes such as roast chicken or pork, and can be enjoyed on their own; or they can be served with whipped cream or ice cream as a tasty dessert.
