How to Cut Lettuce for Tacos
Large pieces of lettuce often slide off tacos, which causes frustration. Shredded lettuce enhances the texture and flavor of tacos. While purchasing shredded lettuce in a packaged bag seems appealing, a head of lettuce usually costs less; and although the process of shredding the lettuce may look challenging, it actually does not take much time. After you shred the lettuce, store it in a plastic storage bag in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.
Things You'll Need
- Cutting board
- Chef's knife
- Food processor
Chef’s Knife
-
Put the lettuce on a clean cutting board. Slice through the core and cut the lettuce into quarters.
-
Place one of the quarter sections facing down on the cutting board.
-
Grab a chef’s knife and hold it perpendicular to the lettuce.
-
Slice the lettuce down toward the cutting board into 1/8 to 1/4-inch shreds.
Food Processor
-
Chop the head of lettuce into small sections that fit into the food processor. For best results, slice the lettuce head into quarters with a chef's knife. Slice each quarter section in half.
-
Place two or three sections into a food processor. Secure the lid tightly.
-
Pulse the food processor to shred the lettuce.
-
Remove the shredded lettuce. Shred the remaining sections.
