What are dropped biscuits?

Dropped Biscuits are a type of quick bread made by dropping spoonfuls of biscuit dough onto a baking sheet. They are typically made with a combination of flour, baking powder, baking soda, buttermilk, and salt. Some recipes may also include sugar, butter, or shortening.

To make dropped biscuits, first, preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar (if using), and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and melted butter (if using). Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

Drop the biscuit dough by rounded tablespoons onto a greased baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.

Dropped biscuits are often served with butter, honey, or jam. They can also be added to soups and stews or topped with cheese, vegetables, or meat.
