How do you get gum off of suede jacket?
To remove gum from a suede jacket, you will need the following materials:
Materials
- WD-40 multipurpose lubricant
- Sponge
- White cloth
- Clean water
Steps
1. Test the colorfastness of your jacket: First, test a small, inconspicuous area of the suede jacket to ensure that it does not change color when you apply WD-40. Do this by applying a few drops of WD-40 to a hidden part of the jacket, such as the inside of a pocket, and let it sit for a few minutes. If there is no color change, you can proceed to remove the gum.
2. Loosen the gum: Apply a small amount of WD-40 to the sticky gum, using a cotton swab or sponge to apply it directly to the gum. Wait for a few minutes to let the WD-40 loosen the gum.
3. Gently scrape off the gum: Use a plastic or metal spatula, being careful not to damage the suede, to gently scrape the loosened gum off the surface. Try pulling it off slowly and gently with your fingers or tweezers if it doesn’t come off with a spatula.
>Avoid using your fingers or sharp tools to scrape off the gum, as this can damage the suede material.
4. Blot up the WD-40: Using a clean, white cloth, blot the area to remove any excess WD-40 and any remaining residue from the gum. Repeat this process if needed, using a fresh part of the cloth.
5. Clean with water: Dampen a white cloth with clean water and gently wipe the area to remove any residual WD-40. Avoid over-wetting the suede, as this can cause it to become discolored.
6. Let it air dry: Finally, let the suede jacket air dry completely. Do not attempt to speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer or placing the jacket in the dryer, as this may also cause damage.
