Can you have an analphactic reaction to eating watermelon?
Anaphylactic shock is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur within minutes of exposure to an allergen. While melons, including watermelons, can cause allergic reactions, they are generally not associated with anaphylaxis.
While watermelon allergies are rare, they do exist. Symptoms of a watermelon allergy can include itching and swelling of the lips, tongue, and throat; difficulty breathing; and hives. In severe cases, anaphylaxis can occur.
If you have a watermelon allergy, it is important to avoid eating watermelon and other melons. You should also carry an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) in case of accidental exposure.
