How do you make acetic acid vinegar?
To make acetic acid vinegar, you need:
1. A base liquid: This can be apple cider, wine, beer, or any other sugary liquid.
2. A source of acetic acid bacteria: This can be a commercial vinegar starter culture or a small amount of unpasteurized vinegar.
3. A container: This can be a glass jar, a ceramic crock, or even a wooden barrel.
4. A cheesecloth or paper towel: This is used to cover the container and allow air to circulate.
5. patience: It takes time for the bacteria to convert the sugars in the base liquid into acetic acid.
Here are the steps to make acetic acid vinegar:
1. In a clean container, combine the base liquid and the source of acetic acid bacteria.
2. Cover the container with cheesecloth or a paper towel and secure it with a rubber band.
3. Stir the mixture well.
4. Place the container in a warm place (between 68 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit) out of direct sunlight.
5. Stir the mixture daily.
6. After about 2 to 3 weeks, the vinegar should be ready. It will have a sour taste and smell.
7. Strain the vinegar through a cheesecloth or a coffee filter into a clean container.
8. Discard the solids.
9. Store the vinegar in a cool, dark place.
Acetic acid vinegar can be used as a salad dressing, a marinade for meats and vegetables, or a cleaning agent.
