Why do they call duck sauce sauce?

The condiment known as duck sauce does not actually contain any duck; rather, its name comes from the fact that it is most frequently served with duck dishes, particularly in Chinese cuisine. The sauce is typically made from apricots or peaches that have been dried, and it has a sweet and sour taste. Other common ingredients in duck sauce include sugar, vinegar, ginger, and garlic. Duck sauce is also sometimes used as a dipping sauce for other types of food, such as egg rolls or spring rolls.
