Are potatoes a vegetable or fruit?
Potatoes are actually tubers, which are technically underground stems.
While they are often considered vegetables for culinary purposes, botanically speaking, they are not fruits.
Here's why:
* Fruits develop from the ovary of a flower and contain seeds. Potatoes don't fit this definition.
* Tubers, on the other hand, are modified stems that store food for the plant.
So, while you might cook potatoes with your vegetables, they're not actually in the same botanical category.
