Salt or sugar how can you find out without tasting it?
There are a few ways to find out if something is salt or sugar without tasting it.
Look at the color. Salt is usually white, while sugar can be white, brown, or yellow.
Feel the texture. Salt is usually coarse and grainy, while sugar is usually fine and powdery.
Smell the substance. Salt has a slightly salty smell, while sugar has a sweet smell.
Touch the substance with your tongue. Sugar dissolves much more slowly in saliva than salt does, so salt leaves a salty taste on your tongue immediately but you might have to give the sugar sample an instant to see if you feel sweet on your tongue or not at all.
