What does salt contain?

Salt primarily contains two elements:

1. Sodium (as Sodium chloride, NaCl)

2. Chloride (as Chloride ion, Cl-)

Sodium chloride is the chemical name for table salt. It is a compound composed of sodium and chloride ions. When sodium and chlorine atoms bond, they form a crystalline structure that gives table salt its characteristic appearance.

In addition to sodium and chloride, trace amounts of other minerals and elements can be found in salt, depending on its source and processing. These may include:

* Calcium

* Magnesium

* Potassium

* Sulfate

* Iodine (added in iodized salt to prevent iodine deficiency)

* Anti-caking agents (such as silicon dioxide) to prevent the salt from clumping

The exact composition and purity of salt can vary depending on the region it is sourced from, the method of extraction and refinement, and any additional ingredients added during processing.
