How to Make Sweet Pickles
Sweet, fresh-packed pickles can be made and put up in one day. The following recipe yields about 5 pints of sweet pickle spears or slices.
Things You'll Need
- Jars
- Lids
- Cucumbers
- Cloths
Instructions

Gather equipment and cucumbers.

Inspect each jar for cracks, nicks or chips.

Wash and rinse jars. Leave jars in hot water or warm dishwasher.

Sort and wash cucumbers.

Remove ends from cucumbers. Cut into spears or slices.

Place in a heat-resistant bowl.

Pour boiling water over cucumbers. Leave for 2 hours. Drain.

Pack spears or slices into hot pint jars. Leave 1/4-inch head space.

Heat spices to boil.

Pour boiling liquid over cucumbers, leaving 1/4-inch head space.

Wipe jar tops with clean, damp cloth.

Place vacuum-seal lids and rings on jars. Tighten.

Process 10 minutes in boiling water bath canner.
