What is kraft paper?
Kraft paper is a paper of superior strength, produced from chemical pulp in the sulfate chemical pulping process. It has a higher percentage of long-fiber cellulose and a lower ash content than other paper. In addition, it has a slightly higher amount of lignin than other papers, which gives it a characteristic brown color. It features high tensile strength, stiffness, toughness, and tear strength. Kraft paper has a high tear resistance, high-burst strength, and low elongation. The word "kraft" is derived from the German word for "strength."
Kraft paper is an environmentally friendly paper as it is strong, lightweight, and recyclable. This paper is ideal for grocery sacks, paper bags, shipping envelopes, wrapping paper, corrugated boxes, paperboard, and other uses where strength is important.
