Is it safe to store food near mothballs?

Mothballs contain chemicals called naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene, which are toxic to humans. These chemicals can be absorbed by food and present health risks when ingested. Storing food near mothballs can potentially contaminate the food with these toxic substances. Consumption of contaminated food can cause various adverse effects, including headache, nausea, dizziness, skin irritation, respiratory problems, and even damage to the liver, kidney, and nervous system.

Therefore, it is not safe to store food near mothballs. Food should be kept in airtight and tightly sealed containers to protect it from infestation and contamination. Other safer alternatives to mothballs for repelling pests are recommended for storing clothes and household items.
