How to Make a Penguin From a Hard Boiled Egg

Surprise your guests, wow the office crowd or entice your child to eat with a perky hard-boiled egg penguin. These appetizers are easy to prepare, healthy and impressive. It is not that often that all those qualities come together in one recipe.

Things You'll Need

  • Pot
  • Water
  • 6 eggs
  • 9 olives
  • Toothpicks
  • Sharp knife
  • 12 baby carrots
  • Cream cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. To prepare hard-boiled eggs, place the six eggs, still in their shell, in a pot. Fill the pot with cool water until the eggs are just covered. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat. Place the eggs in cold water before peeling.

  2. With a toothpick, attach one olive to narrow end of an egg to create the penguin's head. Repeat for the remaining eggs.

  3. Slice 1/2" off the tip of 6 baby carrots. Cut a small opening on the olive and press the carrot in to create the beak. Repeat for the remaining eggs.

  4. Cut the remaining 6 baby carrots in half lengthwise. Lay the flat side down, press 1/2 a toothpick in top. Arrange in groups of two. Press the hard-boiled egg on top, inserting the toothpicks into the egg. This will form the feet of the penguin and give it a firm base on which to stand.

  5. Slice three olives lengthwise and then lengthwise again to create 12 wedge-shaped pieces of olive for the flippers. Affix a flipper on each side of the penguin body with 1/2 of a toothpick, or a small amount of cream cheese.
