Which country discovered chocolate?

The earliest evidence of chocolate consumption dates back to the Olmec civilization in Mesoamerica (present-day Mexico) around 1900 BC. The domestication of the cacao plant, from which chocolate is derived, is believed to have occurred in the Amazon basin. The Maya and Aztec civilizations also had strong connections to the cultivation and use of cacao. It was the Spanish explorers in the 16th century who first brought chocolate to Europe, introducing it to the rest of the world.
