How to Make a Southern Peach Cobbler
Comfort foods are enjoyed by most people and southern peach cobbler is the ultimate in comfort. The complex flavors and textures of this dessert are much easier to achieve than it seems.
Instructions
-
Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Get out a deep 9-by-13-inch pan.
-
Mix together 1 cup each of self-rising flour, milk and white sugar in a bowl. Eliminate as many lumps as possible. Add 1 tsp. of vanilla extract and 1 tsp. of cinnamon if desired. Pour the mixture into the baking pan.
-
Melt a stick of butter in a microwave safe bowl. Do this in 30-second intervals so as not to have butter splatter all over the inside of the microwave. Pour the melted butter over the flour mixture.
-
Open up a large can of sliced peaches in heavy syrup. Pour the entire can with syrup over the batter. The peaches will mix into the batter as it bakes.
-
Put the southern peach cobbler into the hot oven and bake for half an hour. Check to see if the crust has become light golden brown. If not, bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes.
-
Remove the cobbler from the oven and let cool for at least 10 minutes before eating. It's great to eat at room temperature or warm.
-
Serve with fresh whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
