In which country did onion originate?
The earliest archaeological evidence for onions comes from the site at Hajji Firuz Tepe in northern Iran. Onions were introduced into the Mediterranean during the Bronze Age and have been found growing naturally in Egypt since the reign of Ramses II. Onion has been cultivated in India for more than 5000 years. Its cultivation migrated from India to the Mediterranean countries and later it spread to the Western world.
