Where did chilli con carne come from?

Chili con carne is a spicy stew of meat and chilies that is believed to have originated in Northern Mexico or Texas in the 1800s. It is thought to have been created by vaqueros (Mexican cowboys) who cooked over campfires using available ingredients such as beef, dried chilies, garlic, cumin, and tomatoes. Chili con carne was also a popular dish during the American frontier era and, over time, became popular throughout the United States and beyond, with variations appearing in different regions.
