Do Witnesses eat meat with blood in it and non-kosher foods if not why?
Jehovah's Witnesses abstain from eating meat with blood in it and non-kosher foods. This practice stems from their interpretation of Bible passages, primarily from the book of Leviticus in the Old Testament.
Meat with Blood: Leviticus 17:10-14 states, "Any person from the house of Israel or a foreigner residing among them who eats any kind of blood - I will set my face against that person and cut him off from his people. For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls because it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life. Therefore, I say to the people of Israel: None of you may eat blood, nor may the foreigner residing among you eat blood."
Witnesses interpret these verses as a strict prohibition against consuming blood. They believe that blood represents life, and since life belongs to God, it is considered sacred and should not be consumed.
Non-Kosher Foods: Leviticus 11 outlines various dietary regulations, including the distinction between clean and unclean animals. For example, it prohibits the consumption of pork, shellfish, and certain other animals. Witnesses view these regulations as symbolic, representing spiritual cleanliness and purity.
They understand that these specific dietary rules were primarily intended for ancient Israel and may not apply directly to Christians today. However, they choose to follow them as a matter of conscience and as a way of showing respect for God's standards of purity.
By abstaining from meat with blood and non-kosher foods, Jehovah's Witnesses seek to demonstrate their obedience to God and their commitment to following the principles found in the Bible.
