What insects eat lettuce?

Many insects are known to feed on lettuce plants, including:

- Aphids: These small, soft-bodied insects are commonly found on the undersides of leaves, where they feed on sap. Aphids can also transmit various plant diseases.

- Cabbage loopers: The larvae of cabbage loopers are pale green caterpillars with a distinctive looping motion as they move. They can cause significant damage to lettuce leaves by eating large holes.

- Cucumber beetles: Adult cucumber beetles are yellow-green with black stripes and feed on lettuce leaves, while the larvae (called rootworms) feed on the roots of lettuce plants.

- Cutworms: Cutworms are the larvae of various moth species. They are typically nocturnal and feed on the stems of young lettuce plants, causing them to wilt and die.

- Flea beetles: Flea beetles are small, black or brown beetles that can jump when disturbed. They feed on lettuce leaves, creating small holes and causing the leaves to become skeletonized.

- Grasshoppers: Grasshoppers are large, green insects that can cause significant damage to lettuce plants by eating the leaves and stems.

- Leafminers: Leafminers are the larvae of various fly species. They feed within the leaves of lettuce plants, creating distinctive winding tunnels that can disfigure the leaves.

- Spider mites: Spider mites are tiny, spider-like pests that can infest lettuce plants and cause the leaves to become stippled and discolored.

- Whiteflies: Whiteflies are small, white insects that feed on the sap of lettuce plants. They can also transmit various plant diseases.
