Did Thomas Jefferson introduce french fries to America?

Thomas Jefferson did introduce french fries to America, but they weren't called that at the time. In the 1780s, Jefferson served as ambassador to France and fell in love with the country's cuisine, including a dish called "pommes de terre frites" or "fried potatoes." He brought the recipe back to the United States and is credited with popularizing the dish, although it was still called "French fried potatoes" well into the 20th century. So while Jefferson may not have invented french fries, he certainly helped make them a popular food in America.
