According to the Prevention Of Food Adulteration Act, 1954,
Food means any article, whether solid or liquid, of plant or animal origin, which is intended for human consumption, and which includes confectionery, chewing gums, beverages, ice-cream, all other forms of processed food, bakery products and alcoholic drinks.
