How to Fold a Triangle Spring Roll (8 Steps)

The shape of a spring roll, despite the roll part of the name, is not set in stone. A triangle spring roll has the same ingredients and taste as a regular spring roll while having a bit of fun with the form. Like a samosa, the spring roll wrapper is folded into a triangle shape before frying. The triangular version of the spring roll is popular in Vietnam, Thailand and other Southeast Asian cuisines.

Things You'll Need

  • Spring roll wrappers
  • Spring roll filling
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Water
  • Basting brush
  • Cutting board

Instructions

  1. Cut square spring roll wrappers into thirds, resulting in three rectangular pieces. To divide round spring roll wrappers, trim off the round edges on two sides and cut the wrapper in thirds. The top edges will remain slightly rounded.

  2. Position one spring roll wrapper rectangle vertically on a cutting board in front of you.

  3. Place 2 tablespoons of spring roll filling together in the bottom third of the rectangle. Leave enough room on the bottom to fold the wrapper over the filling.

  4. Brush the spring roll wrapper around the filling with a mixture of cornstarch and water to help it stick together.

  5. Fold one of the bottom corners, left or right, over the filling and to the edge to form a triangle.

  6. Flip the triangle with the filling up and over.

  7. Fold the triangle over the long edge to the other side of the rectangle. Continue to fold the triangle up the wrapper until the end of the wrapper. The spring roll wrapper should yield from three to five folds.

  8. Brush the cornstarch and water mixture onto the last fold as needed.
