Can peat have salt in it?

Peat typically contains low levels of salt, usually less than 1%. However, peat from coastal regions can have higher salt content due to the influence of seawater. If the peatland is located near the coast or is influenced by saltwater intrusion, the salt content can increase significantly. The amount of salt in peat can also vary depending on the depth of the peat deposit, with higher salt levels found closer to the surface. Some peat deposits can have localized areas with higher salt content due to the presence of salt springs or the influence of groundwater with higher salinity.
