How to Clean a Hand-Painted Wine Glass (4 Steps)

A delicate, hand-painted wine glass is usually fully functional. You can drink from it, but afterward it will need to be cleaned. Even if the glass is entirely ornamental, it still requires occasional cleaning to remove dust and airborne grime. Putting your hand-painted wine glasses in the dishwasher is a sure way to damage the paint, and possibly even break the glass. Treat your hand-painted wine glasses with care and you should be able to enjoy them for years.

Things You'll Need

  • White vinegar
  • Dish pan
  • Dish soap
  • Dishcloth
  • Draining board or bath towel.

Instructions

  1. Run warm (not hot) water into the glass and allow it to sit for a few minutes. It is not advisable to soak the outside painted side, but soaking the inside makes it easier to clean. Add a splash of vinegar to remove the wine residue.

  2. Fill a bowl with warm water and add a couple of squirts of a dish soap.

  3. Clean the glass quickly with a soft dishcloth. Don’t immerse the glass in water for too long or rub hard. Rinse the glass in clean warm water.

  4. Dry the glass upside down on a draining board or folded towel.
