How to Ferment Wine
You don't have to be a scientist, a wine connoisseur or even a cook to whip this homemade wine into a gorgeous bouquet. While the ingredients list is short, the brew time is a little on the long side. Be patient--it's worth the wait.
Things You'll Need
- 1 can of juice concentrate
- Sugar
- 1 package of wine-grade yeast
- Jug
- Large balloon
- Rubber band
- Cheese cloth
Instructions
-
Combine one can of juice concentrate with sugar in a saucepan, and boil until sugar is dissolved. Add one package yeast to the mixture.
-
Pour those ingredients into a jug, and add cold water to fill the jug.
-
Rinse a large balloon out with water to get the inside as clean as possible.
-
Place the balloon over the mouth of the jug and secure it tightly with a rubber band.
-
Put the jug in a cool, dark place.
-
Check the brew daily. As the sugar turns into alcohol, the balloon fills with the gases. As it continues to ferment, the balloon deflates.
-
Remove the balloon when it has deflated, usually after about 6 weeks to 2 months. Strain the wine using cheesecloth to remove any yeast or sugar chunks, and store in a jug with lid.
