Can you make wine out of prunes?
You can't technically make wine out of prunes in the traditional sense. Wine is made by fermenting the juice of grapes. Prunes are dried plums, so they lack the juice needed for fermentation.
However, you can make a prune-infused wine, or a prune wine using a different method:
1. Start with wine: You would begin with a base wine, such as red wine or white wine.
2. Infusion: You would then add dried prunes to the wine and let them steep for a period of time (a few weeks or longer). This allows the prunes to impart their flavor and color to the wine.
3. Optional: Sweetening: You could sweeten the infused wine to taste, as prunes can add a bit of tartness.
This process isn't technically winemaking, as you're not fermenting anything new, but rather infusing an existing wine.
Note: This method won't create a "wine" that tastes exactly like wine, but rather a wine with a unique prune flavor.
