How do you put the cork back in a wine bottle?
You can't really put the cork back in a wine bottle once it's been removed. Here's why:
* The cork is compressed: When you pull the cork out, it expands to its original size. Pushing it back in would be nearly impossible and would likely damage the cork.
* Wine oxidation: Exposure to air changes the wine's flavor. Once opened, the wine starts to oxidize, and putting the cork back in won't reverse this process.
Instead of trying to put the cork back in, here are some better options for storing opened wine:
* Use a vacuum stopper: These create a seal that removes air from the bottle, slowing down oxidation.
* Use a wine preserver: These contain argon gas, which displaces oxygen and helps preserve the wine.
* Drink it! The best way to prevent oxidation is to finish the bottle within a few days.
