What animals eat sunfish?

While sunfish (Mola mola) are large and appear formidable, they are surprisingly vulnerable to predation. Here are some of the animals that prey on sunfish:

Marine mammals:

* Killer whales (Orcas): These apex predators are known to hunt sunfish, though it's not their primary prey.

* Dolphins: Some dolphin species have been observed feeding on sunfish.

* Seals: Harbor seals and other seal species have also been known to prey on sunfish.

Other fish:

* Sharks: Various shark species, especially larger ones like mako sharks and blue sharks, have been observed feeding on sunfish.

* Tuna: Larger tuna species, like bluefin tuna, may prey on sunfish.

* Billfish: Swordfish and marlin can also be predators of sunfish.

Other predators:

* Seabirds: While less common, some large seabirds like albatrosses and seagulls may scavenge on sunfish carcasses or occasionally catch smaller individuals.

Important Note: The sunfish's primary defense against predators is its size and unusual body shape. However, they are still vulnerable, especially when young or injured.
