How do hermit crabs make a new shell?
Hermit crabs do not make their own shells. They scavenge for empty snail shells to use as their homes. As hermit crabs grow, they need to find larger shells in order to fit their expanding bodies. If a hermit crab cannot find a larger shell, it may become vulnerable to predators and other environmental stresses.
