What is jellyfishs prey?

Jellyfish prey on small organisms found in the water column, including:

1. Plankton: Jellyfish consume a variety of planktonic organisms, including phytoplankton (plant-like organisms) and zooplankton (animal-like organisms).

2. Fish Larvae: Some jellyfish species feed on fish larvae and other small fish that are found in the water.

3. Crustaceans: Jellyfish often capture and consume small crustaceans like copepods, shrimp, and krill.

4. Ctenophores: Ctenophores, also known as comb jellies, can be prey for jellyfish that are larger in size.

5. Other Jellyfish: In some cases, larger jellyfish may prey on smaller jellyfish species during feeding.

Jellyfish typically capture their prey using stinging cells called nematocysts. These stinging cells enable jellyfish to immobilize or paralyze their prey, making it easier to consume. It's worth noting that while jellyfish generally target smaller organisms, some species might also feed on larger prey under certain circumstances.
