Why fish have blubber?
Fish do not have blubber. Blubber is a thick layer of fat found beneath the skin of marine mammals like whales, seals, and walruses. It helps them stay warm in cold water and provides energy reserves.
Fish, on the other hand, use different mechanisms to regulate their body temperature and conserve energy:
* Scales: Fish scales provide a protective barrier and help reduce heat loss.
* Countercurrent heat exchange: This system allows warm blood from the body core to transfer heat to cold blood returning from the extremities, minimizing heat loss.
* Body shape and size: Fish have streamlined bodies and a high surface area to volume ratio, which helps them conserve energy and reduce heat loss.
* Migration: Some fish migrate to warmer waters during colder seasons.
So, while fish may have some fat, they do not have blubber like marine mammals do.
