How much does a lobster weigh?

The average weight of a lobster depends on the species. Most common lobsters, such as the American lobster (Homarus americanus) and the European lobster (Homarus gammarus), typically weigh between 1 and 4 pounds (0.5 and 2 kilograms). However, some lobsters can grow much larger. For example, the California spiny lobster (Panulirus interruptus) can exceed 20 pounds (9 kilograms) in weight, and the giant Australian lobster (Panulirus longipes) can weigh up to 44 pounds (20 kilograms).
