What is the difference between Atlantic lobster and Maine lobster?
Atlantic lobster:
- Scientific name: _Homarus americanus_
- Habitat: Found in the North Atlantic Ocean, typically at depths of 100–800 feet
- Range: From Labrador, Canada, south to North Carolina, United States
- Average length: Up to 36 inches
- Average weight: Up to 25 pounds
Maine lobster:
- Scientific name: _Homarus americanus_
- Habitat: Found only in the cold water off the coast of Maine, particularly the Gulf of Maine
- Range: Confined to an area near Maine and the Bay of Fundy in Canada with water temperatures from 33.8 F in winter to 47.1 °F or in late summer.
- Average length: typically smaller than Atlantic lobster, with females up to 17–20 inches and males to 18-23 inches
- Average weight: Up to 5-8 pounds.
