What are shrimp sizes indicated by?
Shrimp sizes are often indicated by a number-code system. The higher the number, the smaller the shrimp. For example, a "10/20" shrimp means that there are 10 to 20 shrimp per pound. Some common shrimp size codes include:
- 16/20: Large shrimp: 16-20 shrimp per pound
- 21/25: Medium shrimp: 21-25 shrimp per pound
- 26/30: Medium-small shrimp: 26-30 shrimp per pound
- 31/35: Small shrimp: 31-35 shrimp per pound
- 41/50: Extra small shrimp: 41-50 shrimp per pound
It is also possible to find shrimp sold in "jumbo" or "colossal" sizes, which are typically larger than the number-code shrimp.
