How to Cook Striped Pangasius in the Oven

A white-fleshed cousin to our American catfish, Vietnamese striped pangasius has won hearts with its milder, sweeter taste. Look for fresh or frozen fillets when purchasing this pangasius type. Striped pangasius' moist, flaky flesh lends itself to simple preparations, such as baking. To add some texture, coat striped pangasius with breadcrumbs, crushed crackers or ground nuts before setting the fillets in the oven.

Things You'll Need

  • Striped pangasius fillets
  • 2 shallow (2-inch) baking dishes
  • Butter or oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • Food thermometer

Instructions

  1. Thaw striped pangasius fillets if they are frozen. They can be set in the refrigerator for 24 hours to thaw.

  2. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

  3. Grease a shallow baking dish with olive oil or butter.

  4. Brush both sides of each fillet with melted butter or olive oil, then season to taste with salt, pepper and any other desired flavors.

  5. Put the baking dish in the preheated oven at set the timer. Estimate that for each inch of thickness, you will need the fillets to cook for 6 to 10 minutes.
