How to Make a Spinach Roll-Up Wrap

Spinach wraps are a convenient alternative to sandwiches. Avoid the unhealthy ingredients you might find in a deli version by making them yourself with healthy vegetables, lean meats and low-fat spreads. Spinach is rich in vitamins, minerals and protective phytonutrients. Eating a spinach wrap may not make you as strong as Popeye, but it does add healthy vegetables to your meal.

Things You'll Need

  • Tortilla or sandwich wrap
  • Paper towel
  • Microwave
  • Foil or parchment paper
  • Sandwich filling ingredients

Instructions

  1. Warm the tortilla or sandwich wrap for a few seconds in the microwave, wrapped in a damp paper towel, if it is too stiff to roll. Place the tortilla or sandwich wrap on a square of foil or parchment paper.

  2. Spread a moist filling ingredient on the tortilla, covering the large rectangle in the center of the tortilla. Leave the edges dry. Possible choices for moist ingredients include hummus, salad dressings, low-fat herb cheese spreads or a meat salad such as chicken salad or tuna salad.

  3. Place thin slices of meat and low-fat cheeses on the filling. Meat and cheese are optional; spinach and veggie ingredients make a tasty wrap on their own.

  4. Layer spinach leaves and other vegetable ingredients into the wrap. Baby spinach leaves work best because the stems are tender. Shredded carrots, sliced tomatoes, cucumber, mushrooms, avocado and green onions are all great vegetable choices.

  5. Fold the ends toward the center, then fold the end closest to you toward the center. Hold the tortilla and filling in place with your fingertips while rolling the wrap away from you.

  6. Fold the foil or parchment paper around the wrap. Slice the wrap diagonally across the center when ready to eat. Fold the foil or paper back and enjoy.
