How to Cook Minute Steaks Well Done

Minute steak is a thin cut of steak, usually taken from the rump cap. The name comes from the fact that minute steaks can be cooked quickly. Because they cook quickly and because they have a tendency to be on the tough side, it's important to observe minute steaks carefully during cooking in order to avoid overcooking them. Getting the perfect well-done steak requires careful timing.

Things You'll Need

  • Frying pan or griddle
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the frying pan or griddle on high heat. Give it some time to reach maximum temperature.

  2. Pour a little olive oil onto one side of the steak, and then sprinkle salt and pepper over it. Turn it over and repeat the process for the other side. Rub both sides so that the oil, salt and pepper are spread evenly over the surface of the meat.

  3. Place the steak in the pan. Press it down firmly to make sure that it cooks evenly.

  4. Let the steak cook for about a minute, and then turn it over and cook the other side for a minute. This won't give you a well-done steak, but it's important not to let one side overcook.

  5. Keep cooking the steak, turning it over frequently. The exact thickness of the steak will determine how soon it finishes. Because minute steak is so thin, it cooks quickly, so watch it carefully. The steak will be well done when its surface is firm to the touch. If in doubt, make a small cut in the steak to make sure the center is no longer pink.

  6. Remove the steak from the heat. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving it. Minute steak goes well with onions, English mustard or horseradish.
