Why are fish bowls not made of clay?
Fish bowls are not typically made of clay for several reasons:
* Porosity: Clay is porous, meaning it has tiny holes throughout. This means water would constantly seep out of a clay bowl, and the bowl would become soggy and eventually disintegrate.
* Weight: Clay is heavy, especially when wet. A large clay bowl would be difficult to move and could potentially break if dropped.
* Durability: While some clay can be quite durable, it's still susceptible to cracking or chipping, especially when exposed to the constant changes in temperature and humidity that come with housing a fish.
* Toxicity: Some types of clay can release harmful chemicals into the water, which could be detrimental to the fish's health.
* Cleaning: Clay is porous and can be difficult to clean thoroughly, making it difficult to keep the fish's environment clean and healthy.
Instead of clay, fish bowls are typically made of glass or plastic, which are non-porous, lightweight, durable, non-toxic, and easy to clean.
