Do you have to put water conditioner in the before putting fish in?
You absolutely need to use water conditioner before putting fish in a new tank!
Here's why:
* Chlorine and Chloramine: Tap water contains chlorine and/or chloramine, which are toxic to fish. Water conditioner removes these chemicals, making the water safe for your aquatic friends.
* Heavy Metals: Some tap water sources contain heavy metals like copper, which can also harm fish. Water conditioner can help remove or bind these metals.
* pH Adjustment: Water conditioner sometimes includes pH adjusters to bring the water to a more suitable level for your fish species.
* Other Beneficial Compounds: Many conditioners contain beneficial bacteria that help establish a healthy environment in the tank.
Important:
* Always follow the directions on the water conditioner bottle. Adding too much can be just as harmful as not adding any at all.
* Use a dechlorinator specifically designed for aquariums. Don't use products meant for swimming pools or other uses.
* Condition your water thoroughly before adding fish. It's best to let the water sit for at least 24 hours after adding conditioner, allowing the chemicals to fully neutralize.
By using water conditioner, you can help ensure your fish have a healthy and thriving environment in their new home.
