Can you eat cooked fish left out of the fridge overnight?
It is not safe to eat cooked fish that has been left out of the fridge overnight.
Cooked fish is perishable, and will quickly begin to spoil if left unrefrigerated. The danger zone for food safety is between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit. When food is left in this temperature range, bacteria can multiply rapidly and make the food unsafe to eat.
Eating food that has been left out too long can cause foodborne illness, which can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. In some cases, foodborne illness can be fatal.
To avoid foodborne illness, it is important to refrigerate cooked fish within two hours of cooking. If you are not going to eat the fish within a few days, it is best to freeze it.
