Can you breed convict fish with African cichlids?

Convict fish (Archocentrus nigrofasciatus) and African cichlids (family Cichlidae) belong to different genera and are not closely related. While it is possible to keep convict fish and African cichlids in the same aquarium, they should not be bred together as they are unlikely to produce viable offspring.
