How long is refrigerated fish safe to eat?

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends the following guidelines for refrigerating fish:

- Raw Fish: 1 to 2 days

- Cooked Fish: 3 to 4 days

- Smoked Fish: 3 to 4 days

- Fish Frozen and Thawed: 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator or 24 hours in cold water

When storing fish in the refrigerator, always store it in a covered container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap to prevent cross-contamination and extend its shelf life. Also, avoid storing fish in the refrigerator door, as this is the warmest part. For longer storage, freezing fish is the best option.
