How to Cook a Walleye Pike Fillet
Walleye pike fillets cook well in a pan. When preparing any fish, cook it just until it flakes with a fork to prevent it from becoming tough and rubbery. Using a nonstick pan with additional oil ensures that your fish comes cleanly out of the pan without sticking to the bottom. Choose an option below to suit your cooking preferences: pan-fry fish or grilled fish.
Things You'll Need
- For pan frying:
- Nonstick frying pan
- 1 lb. walleye pike fillets
- 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
- Spatula
- Paper towels
- Lemon wedges and tartar sauce for serving (optional)
- For grilling:
- Grill
- Grilling basket
Pan Fry Fish
-
Inspect the walleye pike fillets and remove any bones you see.
-
Heat the frying pan over medium high heat.
-
Add the oil to the pan, swirling the pan to coat the bottom.
-
Place the walleye pike fillets into the pan and cook for 4 to 5 minutes.
-
Turn the fish with a spatula and cook on the bottom for 4 to 5 minutes or until the fish turns opaque and flakes.
-
Drain the fish on paper towels and serve with lemon and tartar sauce if desired.
Grilled Walleye Pike Fillets
-
Heat the grill to medium heat.
-
Coat the walleye pike fillets on both sides with the vegetable oil and place into the grilling basket.
-
Cook the fish in the grilling basket directly over the heat for 6 to 9 total minutes, turning halfway through cooking.
-
Remove the fish from the heat and serve when it flakes with a fork.
