What fish swim side ways?

The fish that swims sideways is the flatfish. This group includes familiar species like:

* Flounder

* Sole

* Halibut

Flatfish have a unique body shape that allows them to lie flat on the seabed, camouflaged with the sand or gravel. Their eyes are on one side of their head, and they have a flattened body shape that allows them to lie flat on the bottom of the ocean. This allows them to ambush prey from below.

Interestingly, flatfish are born symmetrical, like most fish. However, during their larval stage, one eye migrates to the other side of their body, and their body flattens. This process is called metamorphosis.
