What habitat does the grass carp live in?

The grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) is a freshwater fish native to eastern Asia, specifically China and Siberia. It inhabits a variety of aquatic habitats, but primarily thrives in large, slow-flowing rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and ponds with abundant vegetation. Grass carp prefer warm, shallow waters with plenty of submerged aquatic plants, which constitute the majority of their diet. They are well adapted to life in muddy, turbid environments and can tolerate a wide range of water quality conditions. These fish can be found in both natural and man-made water bodies, including wetlands, marshes, and flooded fields. Grass carp have also been introduced to various parts of the world for vegetation management and aquaculture purposes.
