How to Make Homemade Turkey Glaze
Glazes add a punch of flavor and a rich bronze hue to a roasted turkey. As the bird cooks, prepare a glaze on the stovetop or in the microwave. While glazes are typically made with honey, molasses or apple cider, liven them up with the addition of fruit jams, fresh herbs and savory spices. Gently simmer or microwave the glaze until it's heated through, then apply several coats at regular intervals near the end of the cooking time to seal in moisture.
Tasty Turkey Glazes

Begin with a sweet base, such as a 1/2 to a full cup of honey, apple cider or molasses. Create a fruity glaze with a few spoonfuls of jam, or use the jam as the base instead. For example, microwave apricot jam until it's slightly thinned, or simmer fresh cranberries in a glaze until they burst and release their juices. Introduce a few splashes of lemon or orange juice for a citrus kick. A splash of alcohol, such as bourbon, adds a welcome kick and pairs well with delicate fruit flavors such as peach. Fresh herbs such as rosemary and sage add savory, earthy flavors. Simply toss whole sprigs into the glaze as it simmers to release their flavors. Chili flakes or chipotle in adobo sauce add a spicy, balanced zing to fruity glazes. A hearty dose of black pepper, meanwhile, balances super sweet glazes.
