What does the arrow in a food chain or wed present?

In a food chain or web, the arrows represent the direction of energy flow. They indicate which organism is consumed by another organism in the chain or web. The arrows always point from the organism that is eaten to the organism that does the eating.

For example, in the simple food chain: grass → grasshopper → bird, the arrows would look like this:

GRASS → GRASSHOPPER → BIRD

The arrow from grass to grasshopper indicates that the grasshopper eats the grass. The arrow from grasshopper to bird indicates that the bird eats the grasshopper.

This shows that energy is transferred in a unidirectional way in a food chain, from the trophic level with producers to the top predators which make consumers or top predators or secondary consumers.
