Is it safe to eat almonds that have expired?
Almonds can go rancid when exposed to heat, light, or oxygen because of their high oil content. The expiration date on the package is an estimate of how long the almonds will still retain their best quality flavor.
Eating rancid almonds will probably not make you sick but they don't taste right so eating expired almonds in excess should be avoided. Rancidity causes food to develop an unpleasant taste but is only a small health risk. When in doubt, throw the almonds away and buy fresh ones.
