How long does WHITE sugar last?
Refined sugar can be stored for several years under the right conditions. According to the USDA Sugar Association, white sugar can be stored for up to two years in a cool, dry place.
* Best Before: White sugar has a best before date for quality purposes, not safety purposes. Sugar does not spoil, so it's safe to consume past the best before date as long as it has been stored properly.
STORAGE:
* Store sugar in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and sources of heat.
* It's best to keep sugar in a sealed package with a desiccant or in an airtight container with some dry rice to help absorb moisture.
* Avoid contact with moisture as it can cause the sugar to clump.
* If the sugar does become hard or clumpy, you can soften it by placing it in a warm, humid environment.
NOTE:
Sugar is hygroscopic, meaning it easily absorbs moisture from the air, which can cause clumping. Be sure to keep the container tightly sealed to prevent this.
